About The Sector

The Cereal, Pulse and Oilseeds Processing Research and Coffee and Tea Environment, Energy Development Desk is a technical and research-focused unit within the government food sector that works to improve the processing, value addition, and sustainability of key agricultural commodities. The desk concentrates on enhancing the efficiency and quality of cereal, pulse, and oilseed processing systems while also addressing the environmental and energy needs of coffee and tea production and processing. It supports national goals related to food security, export competitiveness, and sustainable resource management by integrating research, innovation, and environmentally responsible practices.

Core Responsibility

The desk is responsible for conducting research and developing improved processing technologies for cereals, pulses, and oilseeds to enhance product quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and increase value addition. It evaluates and promotes efficient milling, storage, and preservation techniques that meet national and international standards. In the coffee and tea sub-sector, the desk focuses on environmental sustainability and energy efficiency by introducing eco-friendly processing methods, waste management systems, and renewable energy solutions. It assesses environmental impacts and develops strategies to minimize pollution and resource depletion.
