About The Sector

The Coffee and Tea Processing Research and Development Desk is a specialized unit within the government food sector dedicated to improving the quality, efficiency, and value addition of coffee and tea products. The desk focuses on enhancing processing techniques from post-harvest handling to final product development, ensuring that coffee and tea meet both domestic consumption needs and international market standards. It supports the development of sustainable and innovative processing methods that preserve product quality, improve competitiveness, and increase export potential.

Core Responsibility

The desk is responsible for conducting research on improved processing methods such as washing, drying, fermentation, roasting, and packaging to enhance the quality and consistency of coffee and tea products. It develops and promotes technologies that reduce post-harvest losses and improve efficiency in processing operations. The unit ensures that processing activities comply with national and international quality and safety standards, and it supports certification and standardization initiatives. It also works on product diversification and value addition, including the development of specialty coffee, flavored teas, and ready-to-drink beverages. Additionally, the desk provides technical support and training to producers and processors, facilitates technology transfer, and collaborates with stakeholders to scale up innovations.
