About The Sector

The Beverage Sector within the government food sector is responsible for the development, regulation, and promotion of safe, nutritious, and high-quality beverages for both domestic consumption and export markets. The sector covers a wide range of products, including non-alcoholic beverages such as fruit juices, soft drinks, bottled water, dairy-based drinks, and traditional beverages. It plays a key role in supporting agro-processing industries by encouraging the use of locally available raw materials and promoting value addition. The sector is also focused on ensuring food safety, improving processing standards, and enhancing the competitiveness of beverage products in regional and international markets.

Core Responsibility

The Beverage Sector is responsible for developing and implementing policies, standards, and regulations that ensure the safety, quality, and nutritional value of beverages. It supports research and development activities aimed at improving processing technologies, product formulation, preservation methods, and shelf life. The sector promotes the use of local agricultural inputs to strengthen supply chains and reduce dependency on imports. It oversees quality assurance systems and ensures compliance with national and international standards. Additionally, the sector facilitates capacity building by providing technical support and training to producers, processors, and small and medium enterprises.
